ENVIRONMENTAL POTENTIAL OF IMPROVED POLYCARBONATE HOLLOW SHEET
Project of NPO ESCOT is about research and development of improved polycarbonate hollow sheet (hereinafter called HEATLE PANEL) in following field.
1. Convert ray (include sunlight) to heat.
2. Produce O2 by photosynthesis.
3. Decompose organic matter in waste water by generation of BIOFILM inner wall of hollow sheet.
4. Promote chemical reaction, such as water electrolysis.
5. Control ray strength, collar, and reflection.
6. Radiation cooling system by running under ground water inner wall.
As far as solar heat collector usage is concerned, NPO ESCOT supplied/spread more than 100 HEATLE PANELs for greenhouses, waste water treatment plant, University, National research institution, and of course for individual.
Technological concept of HEATLE PANEL was chosen a subsidies to realize innovations by MAFF (Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries) in 2014.
Also the technology received a [MAKING THINGS IDEA PRIZE] in home town Kashiwa-city, Japan.
Of course the technology was given/authorized a Patent for its novelty of the invention.
As a detail, HEATLE PANEL(LWH size:1810mm x 910mm x 4.5mm) can collect approx. 780W(185cal/sec) of solar energy.
Sunlight exchange to heat ratio is 48% and it is the simple ever a DIY solar collector panel made by hollow sheet that is availability in many countries.
A) Initial situation and context of the project/initiative
In Japan approx. 60% of energy consumption of families is for “heating” and “ hot-water supply”.
This means, under 45 degree centigrade of heat source/supply can be effective solution for world
approx.60% of energy is HEAT ENERGY
Actually solar heat collector was very popular more than 20-30 years ago.
However in recent electrification and government subsidies, solar heating system is changing to SOLAR CELLS on the roof in Japan.
Some people abandon solar heat collector on the roof, even it still does work well.
By the way, necessity of heat energy is in winter time when height of the sun is low.
In this case, solar heat collector should be able to put on outer wall or garden instead of roof.
However, Japanese makers does not supply solar heat collector that can be put on outer wall, most of them are too heavy to put on.
Context of the project is to look again usage of heat energy, and supply/spread a DIY kit model.
HEATLE PANEL is light weight, thin, strong, flexible, high efficiency, low price, possible/easy to DIY make, and it can be stow almost anywhere.
*Thickness of HEATLE PANEL is 4.5mm( light receiving plate area), weight is less than 2.7kgs, can circulate/stow approx. 6 little of water/liquid inside , so easy to put on the wall by screw and also can be hung down by cord.

B)Description of project objective and motivation
In Japan, most of people think, electricity should be the main energy source to live.
Many people think solar generation is the best way to prevent global warming.
ESCOT agrees in some aspect of this image, however, it is not accurate.
As a graph shows, “HEAT” is the leading character in energy demand.
In food production, such as agriculture, fish breeding heat supply and control is vital factor.
When we need HEAT ENERGY, we should obtain HEAT ENERGY from heat source (as much as possible), such as, sunlight, underground water, drainage etc.
Heat collection from sunlight used to be very popular in Japan, because solar heat collector is low price, easy installation and high efficiency.
As far as heat energy handling is concerned, people can be not only supplier, but also even manufacture .
So project goal is to re-consider heat energy source and research/spread a DIY type hybrid solar system (SIMULTANEOUS RECOVERY SYSTEM OF HEAT AND ELECTROCITY ENERGY).
Objective is to create/research more possibility of hollow sheet in many aspects.4
C) SCOPE AND IMPLEMENTATION ACTIVITIES
At this stage scope of the project is in Japan.
We applied the HEATLE PANEL to following uses.
1. As a SOLAR HEAT COLLECTOR
2. As a SIMULTANEOUS RECOVERY SYSTEM OF HEAT AND ELECTROCITY ENERGY
3. As a AERATION OF AQUARIUM
4. As a RADIATION COOLING (OR) HEATING SYSTEM USIGN UNDERGROUND WATER IN GREENHOUSE
Major activities that we have been conducted is as following.
1.Developed off grid SOLAR HEATING SYSTEM.
2.Conducted an experiment of solar heat supply system to activate bacterium.
3.Conducting an experiment greenhouse temperature control system.
4.Manufactured “FLEXIBLE HYBRID SOLAR COLLECTOR” which can collect both electricity and heat at the same time.
Many field of application of HEATLE PANEL. Structure of the HEATLE PANEL
Polycarbonate sheet is wildly application as roofing construction and decoration field, like greenhouse, sport stadium, passageway, swimming pool, workshop, bus stop, parking shelter etc.
In a winter day, an experiment was done.
A sensor was put into space of hollow sheet.
The temperature of inside hollow sheet was approx. 20 degrees centigrade higher than environs air temperature by getting sunlight.
However nobody tried to make a solar heat collector from hollow sheet until then.
Flowing air to warm up room temperature was the first challenge.
To obtain hot air was not so difficult, however flowing water/liquid was difficult and took us several years to create countermeasures for problem as below.
1. Hot water resistance, insulation for water pressure, and water shock wave
2. UV deterioration
3. Water drift effect inside of hollow sheet
4. Material selection and design for pipe joint part
5. Adhesive material to put all parts together
7. Improvement/create of peripheral equipment to be off grid system etc.
8. Research on applied technology, such as hybrid solar, bio reactor, etc.
All these things and action taken for can be the innovative aspects of this project.
In this project, people can make the SOLAR ENERGY COLLECTOR with DIY tools.
Some can start SOLAR ENERGY FACTRY after he or she makes and uses this HEATLE PANEL.

Patent office took this innovation in their Magazine.
And this technology was received a MAKING THINGS IDEA PRIZE in home town Kashiwa-city in Japan.

E) IMPLEMENTATION AND COSTS
The one of off grid type system is consist of 2-3 HEATLE PANELs, solar pump+ 15W solar cell, priming water tank, and a simple heat exchanger.
Its cost is approx. 500-550 US$ (include all parts and manual) in Japan.
In this case, the cost will be refunded within three years in Tokyo area.
Durability of HEATLE PANEL could be more than 10 years, because most of hollow sheet used outside as roofing, last more than 15 years without deterioration symptom.
If HEATLE PANEL work 10 years then user can save approx. US$2500 since then.
It is easy to fix the HEATLE PANEL, even water leaking trouble happens by some physical impact.

F) Description of achieved results
HEATLE PANEL was introduced into greenhouse where is in cold district in Japan.
The farmer grows seeding by using both gas and electricity to warm up inside of the greenhouse in cold days.
After introduction, heating wire buried under the ground was not used in most cases, according to the farm owner.
This technology of project was taken up subsidies to realize innovations by Japanese MAFF (Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries) in 2014.
In this project, HEATLE PANEL uses clear polycarbonate plate was equipped around ceiling of greenhouse.
Result was as flowing.
1. Absorb only infra-red rays (heat ray) so no influence for the crops.
2. HAETLE PANEL work as air-conditioning by running underground water inside.
3. Save CO2 gas by reduce number of ventilation
*Blackout curtain and ventilation are the main way to cool down greenhouse temperature.
Also this technology was adopted by Chiba Prefectural Livestock Research Center.
In the livestock waste water treatment plant where above organization operates, heat was necessary to activate microbe in cold season.
Before HEATLE PANEL was introduced, they use electric heater.

G) Replication of potential (Model character)
As a matter of fact, the technology is open for whoever try to make.
In the exhibition in Japan, we explained how to make it to all visitors.
Now we are ready to send all parts (include hollow sheet) and English manual to overseas, so that everybody can make it in their country.
The HEATLE PANEL is composed by three main parts such as HOLLOW SHEET, WATER SEALING PLATES and PIPE CONNECTORS.
All of them are made from polycarbonate, so we use only alcohol type silicon adhesive material to put it together.
As a tool, people need drill, box cutter, and silicon injector to make it.
Hollow sheet and water sealing plates is available everywhere, water pipe connection and English manual is ready to send by e.mail.
