Current status of window glass strengthening methods and their energy-saving effects
Common window glass strengthening methods evaluation:
1. Film: Inexpensive, prevents glass from shattering, buys time if a suspicious person enters, but has little energy-saving effect.
②External shutters: Low wind resistance (possibility of damage due to back wind), installation on all windows increases construction costs significantly
3) Tempered glass: Expensive, has high wind resistance but may break if hit by flying debris, and has low energy-saving effects.
④ Double-layered inner windows: Low in crime prevention and disaster prevention effects, but energy-saving effects. Popularized by subsidies
What is disaster prevention eco-window construction?
This is a simple method to reinforce windows from the outside. This patented technology significantly reduces the risk of window glass breaking and at the same time increases insulation by more than twice the original level.
Metal fittings are attached to the outside of the window glass and then high-strength, highly insulating hollow polycarbonate (4mm thick) is installed.

Q&A : Frequently asked questions.
*What are the costs of materials and installation?
It costs about 2,000 yen for one 90cm x 90cm window pane. For a small window, it costs about 360 yen.
Installation can be done by DIY, so it won’t be a burden on busy businesses that are short on staff.
*Wouldn’t it be cheaper to stick it directly to the window without using special fittings?
The light in the room inevitably attracts insects. I think it’s important that it can be removed.
*What is the strength and durability of hollow polycarbonate sheets?
Polycarbonate is called engineering plastic and is used for aircraft windows, bulletproof glass, etc.
Metal pieces are deformed and absorbed, so it will not break. It is fine even if a car is driven over it.
Its durability is considered to be about the same as that of rain gutters. It is also flame-retardant and does not burn easily, but is not prone to damage.
*Should I attach it to the inside or outside of the window?
This method is characterized by its strong protection against typhoons, gusts of wind, and burglaries, so we recommend attaching it to the outside.
Also, external insulation is considered to be better in terms of strengthening insulation.
However, if DIY installation is difficult due to being in a high place, etc., it can also be attached to the inside.
*Is it difficult to glue the special metal fittings or cut the polycarbonate sheet?
It requires some work, so if you are not confident, it is a good idea to ask a professional.
By the way, previous users have installed it by themselves by reading the manual.
*Can I use double-sided tape for adhesion?
Double-sided tape is not water resistant and is not suitable for attaching to the outside of a window.
Bathbond (silicone clear) will hold the special metal fittings firmly for a long period of time.
Bath glue (silicone) holds 10 liter bucket in place for a week
Various functions
Impact experiment:
Metal objects of various shapes were dropped from a height of 1m to see if glass protected with polycarbonate would break.
Reduction in utility bills:
Amortized over approximately 2 years: Calculated based on a window area of 10 m2.
Insulation test:
It was measured that the insulation effect was approximately twice as good (heat return rate: 2.9w/km2.sec).
Crime prevention:
Approximately 70% of break-ins occur through windows. This also helps prevent burglaries.
Soundproofing effect:
Noise reduction effect of about 16 dB.
This is the noise level at a location about 40 m away from the main road.
Smart daylighting:
Blocks sunlight in summer and lets light in winter: In summer, sunlight from a high position is blocked by the ribbed side of the hollow polycarbonate.
On the other hand, in winter, light from a low angle is reflected by the ribbed surface and allows light to reach the back of the room.
UV protection:
Prevents discoloration of items stored in warehouses due to UV rays and reduces lighting costs by blocking light

supplement
This product was developed to make glass less likely to break. It is easy to use, just attach a special bolt to the outside of the window glass, insert the hollow polycarbonate sheet, and tighten it with the special metal fittings. It can significantly reduce the risk of window breakage due to typhoons. It also has a crime prevention effect against intrusion through the window. It has high insulation performance and reduces the heat in and out of the window by about half, resulting in about 30% energy saving effect. In addition, hollow polycarbonate has a noise reduction effect of 16db, so it is recommended for those who live near main roads or airports.
Hollow polycarbonate sheet (182cm x 91cm, thickness 4mm) can be purchased at a nearby home improvement store. Instructions on installation, cleaning, removal, and moving are included with the product.
[Test results]
1. The insulating and heat-blocking capabilities of window glass are limited (areas with only window glass are cold in winter and hot in summer)
2. The combination of panel and blinds is effective for keeping warm in winter, blocking heat in summer, and preventing the deterioration of the computer work environment caused by direct sunlight
3. There are no problems with strength even if the gap between the window glass and the hollow polycarbonate panel is more than 1cm *Actual results from two typhoons
4. If the window bolts are positioned too far inward, warping occurs, presumably due to heat
